Maine:

Caribou: We invite a skilled Pathologist to join the medical staff of an award-winning, community-owned 65-bed medical center where over 500 employees provide care to 35,000 residents of northeastern Maine. You will be impressed by this “Top Rural Hospital” – a multiple blue-ribbon hospital and Women’s Choice Award winner. Leapfrog gives this hospital an “A” Safety Score every year. They are rated in the top 2% of all US hospitals for health information and patient safety technology and are the “Employer and Provider of Choice” in healthcare in the region.

The employer is a physician practice management organization affiliated with the hospital. That entity is designated as an FQHC, so support may be available for a J1/H1b visa holder. MD/DO are equally welcome.

You will find this role to be interesting and rewarding. The incoming Pathologist will join a peer as a key member on a strong Laboratory Services team. The hospital Laboratory is CAP accredited and is staffed 24/7/365. The Lab team has 36 members including Phlebotomists, Medical Laboratory Techs, Clinical Lab Scientists and Medical Technologists. The lab offers tests including Chemistry/Special Chemistry, Hematology, Serology and Urinalysis. Microbiology performs culture workups on different sources as well as rapid antigen tests. PCR testing is offered for Respiratory and Enteric Pathogens. Bacterial ID with potential resistance patterns for positive blood cultures are done for rapid turnaround time on patients with septicemia. Sensitivity Panels are offered for treatment of infections. Histology handles all processing/slide prep for the Pathologists. Additionally, the Lab is interfaced with the reference Laboratory of Quest Diagnostics to expedite turnaround for tests not done on site.

You will earn a highly competitive salary plus excellent benefits including paid relocation assistance to scenic Maine, paid liability insurance, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, paid time off for vacations and sick leave, more paid leave plus a budget for your CME, participation in retirement plans, paid professional expenses, and more. Assistance with student loans is also available.

Northern Maine is a wonderful place to live and work. Caribou is a dynamic, growing community that is economically, culturally and socially inviting. They have high quality public schools – the new multi-million dollar Middle/Senior High School opened in 2020 – and a student-to-teacher ratio of just 14:1. Caribou boasts an extremely low crime rate, and recreation galore: A multi-million-dollar Recreation and Wellness Center offers indoor running, basketball, swimming and other programs for all ages, and other local facilities include a premier cross-country skiing venue too. Rural northern Maine enjoys a picturesque four-season environment with abundant wildlife including moose, deer and bald eagles – reasons many seasonal visitors flock to the area to enjoy a quiet summer retreat, the spectacular colors of autumn, or a winter adventure. Enjoy breathtaking sunsets on area lakes, camping and hiking in peaceful forests, hunting and fishing, canoeing and kayaking on lakes and rivers, hiking and biking on paths for all skill levels, or snowmobiling or dog sledding across groomed trails. A commercial airport in neighboring Presque Isle (20 minutes away) offers direct flights to Newark daily. Many residents of northern Maine enjoy visiting Canada – Quebec City is a scenic five hour drive – or Bangor, Maine (Maine’s third largest city), a three hour drive south.
